Westerville South lost at home to Olentangy Orange 42-24 in a duel between two teams headed for the playoffs. Defense ruled early for both teams as neither team was able to move the ball early as the first quarter ended with no score. Orange got the scoring started in the 2nd quarter when QB Spencer Hawkins scored on a 28 yard run. South answered the score on a 36 yard field goal from Matthew Bame. Orange extended their lead to 14-3 when Jake Vanchieri scored on a 5 yard rush. South posted the final points of the half when speedster Kaden Saunders scored on an 85 yard kickoff return to send the Wildcats into the half only down a point. Michael Mansaray opened the 2nd half scoring on a 4 yard TD rush for South, giving them a short lived lead. After struggling to get their running game going in the first half, Orange made an adjustment and took to the air in the 3rd quarter, scoring on two quick TD passes from Hawkins to take lead the Pioneers would relinquish. Orange won the total yardage battle 403 to 228 for the Wildcats. Spencer Hawkins threw for 219 yards and two scores for the Pioneers while Jake Vanchieri rushed for 151 yards and two scores. Hawkins also had two scores rushing. Michael Mansaray led South’s attack, rushing for 98 yards and a score. SOuth ends their season with a 6-4 record and is in the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Orange closes out their season with a stellar 9-1 record.
