Matthew Bame kicked a clutch 33 yard field goal in overtime to hand visiting Westerville South a 23-20 overtime victory over rival Westerville Central on the road. With the win South won the “Battle of the Ville” with wins over both rival schools. South took a 14-6 lead entering the half, answering two Central field goals with touchdowns. Central owned the 3rd quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 14-0 to take a 20-14 lead entering the final quarter. South posted the only scoring in the final quarter on a 6 yard touchdown run from Michael Mansaray but missed an extra point that would have given them the lead. Regulation play ended with the score notched at 20. Central had the first possession in OT but had their drive stall following a personal foul penalty and was unable to score. A holding penalty on South’s first OT possession moved the ball back to the 16 yard line when Bame split the uprights dead center for the victory. South made a strong case for the playoffs with the win. Up next for South is a home game against Olentangy Orange while Central travels to Olentangy needing a win to help their playoff chances.
