Westerville South lost to Hilliard Bradley in the District semifinals 50-41. The game was played at Olentangy Berlin. South started the game on a fast note, hitting four straight early three-pointers to open up an 8 point lead early in the first quarter. South would go on to take a four point lead into the second quarter. At the four minute mark in the 2nd, Bradley started their roll and went into the half up by two points behind an 11-0 run late in the half. The teams traded the lead in the third quarter with Bradley maintaining their two point lead heading into the final quarter. Bradley’s defense stiffened in the final quarter, preventing South from getting any open shots or scoring opportunities. Bradley held South to two points over the last three minutes of the game and hit their free throws under pressure. Junior Tabari Howard led South with 15 points while Sophomore Drey Carter added 14. Bradley, seeded #2 in the Columbus region moves on to the District final against the winner of Newark vs. Dublin Coffman.
South closed out their season with a 16-9 record with a tough strength of schedule and has a lot of promise heading into next season. South’s four leading scorers will be returning, with most of the team remaining intact. South also opens up a new gym for the first time in over 60 years next season and figures to be one of Central Ohio’s top teams heading into the season.
