Westerville South defeated rival Westerville Central on the road 63-61 in double overtime in a battle for first place in the OCC Buckeye conference. South started fast, outscoring Central by 15 points in the first half behind 8 points from Tabari Howard, who would go on to lead South in scoring with 19 points. Central would not go quietly and battled back in the second half, slowly chipping away at South’s lead. Central never held a lead in regulation but managed to tie the game in the final minute behind clutch performances from guards Tasos Cook and Quincy Clark who would lead Central in the box score with 23 and 20 points respectively. Both team couldn’t capitalize on late opportunities to win in the first overtime period. Guard Jaden Guice made two clutch free throws in the 2nd overtime with 11 seconds on the clock to give South a two point lead. Guice posted 13 points for South. Two late shots from Central lipped out in the final seconds and as Peter Pedrozo and Drey Carter each posted 10 points for South. South escaped with the victory. South improved to 8-4, 4-1 in Buckeye play with the win while Central fell to 9-3, 3-2 in conference with the tough loss. Up next for South is a Saturday tilt at Tri-Valley.
