Westerville South High School
Westerville North High School
It’s been a few years since Westerville South has defeated North. In fact, the last victory against this opponent came in 2013. It has taken four years for the WIldcats to re-build and to once again become a significant player in the Westerville City Schools system.
This is the year.
One down and one to go to demonstrate just how far the ‘Cats have come.
South came ready to play, and play they did. A fantastic combination play up top resulted in an early lead for the Wildcats. The game was hard fought with very physical play. South rebuffed several attempts by North to out-run the defensive line, but were turned back each time. It was just one poorly weighted ball back to the Wildcat’s keeper that resulted in a series of events that resulted in North tying the game late in the first half.
Fatigue could have played a factor for South as most players played the full 80 minutes while North substituted in large numbers and quite often. However, the Wildcats were tough and resilient to the end. A break-a-way goal by Deja Edwards with 10 minutes remaining put South on top and the crowd held their breath for the last 10 minute battle.
In the end, the ‘Cats held on to put a damper on North’s senior night with a 2-1 win in OCC play. The Wildcats now have 4 points in the OCC.
Outstanding effort and play by all players from South. What a team effort.
